The South Sudan National Police Service announced on Monday the arrival of 10 South Sudanese deported from Egypt.
Police spokesperson Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial confirmed the deportees landed at Juba International Airport on December 23, 2024, and were reunited with their families as no criminal charges were filed against them.
In a security update, Nhial reported that the overall situation from December 26 to 30, 2024, was relatively calm across the country, with no road ambushes or highway attacks reported during the Christmas period. However, isolated incidents of violence and criminal activity were noted in some states.
In Kuach North Payam, Gogrial West County, a domestic violence incident on December 26 resulted in the death of a 31-year-old woman. Her husband was arrested, and a case was filed at Kuajok County Police Station.
The same day, a 20-year-old man was assaulted and fatally stabbed in Wau’s Lologo area. The suspect was apprehended, and police in Wau Town have opened an investigation.
In another incident on December 26, a 12-year-old girl was raped by a 38-year-old man in Majook-Yien-Thiou, Awiel East County. The victim received medical attention, and the suspect was arrested, with a case filed at the local police station.
In Kejin Boma, Maban County, on December 27, a Sudanese national was shot and injured by an unidentified assailant. Separately, in the Maban refugee camp, a Sudanese man accidentally shot his wife while attempting to target someone else. Both incidents are under police investigation.
Nhial emphasized that police are actively addressing these cases and warned against illegal social gatherings. He urged club owners to prevent teenagers from organizing unauthorized parties or events at their premises.
The report highlights the police’s efforts to maintain law and order during the holiday season while addressing isolated crimes.
