A tragic collision between a microbus and a cement-laden trailer truck in Egypt’s central Asyut province has left 13 people dead and two others injured, local authorities reported on Tuesday.
The crash occurred on the Qawsiya agricultural road, where the microbus collided with the truck, which was carrying cement. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals and recovering the bodies of the victims.
While the identities of those involved in the crash have yet to be disclosed, the incident underscores Egypt’s ongoing road safety crisis.
Egypt has long struggled with high rates of traffic accidents. According to the latest statistics from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), 5,861 people were killed in road accidents across the country in 2023 alone. Road safety remains a critical challenge for authorities as they seek to reduce fatalities and improve traffic regulations.
