Egyptian authorities have confirmed the rescue of 28 individuals following the sinking of a tourist boat near the country’s Red Sea coast early Monday morning.
The vessel, which was carrying 45 people—including 31 tourists and 14 crew members—went down during a diving excursion near the coastal town of Marsa Alam.
According to local officials, the boat issued a distress signal at 5:30 a.m. local time. Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi announced the successful rescue of 28 people, though their nationalities were not disclosed. Search operations are continuing for the remaining 17 individuals.
Efforts to locate survivors involve a coordinated response, including a frigate and aircraft working alongside naval forces in the area.
