Somali military forces, in collaboration with international partners and local militias, have successfully killed at least 59 al-Shabab militants during two separate operations over the past two days in the Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions.
A statement released by the Ministry of Information on Tuesday confirmed that 32 militants, including several high-ranking commanders, were neutralized near Garilay in the Galgadud region.
Another 27 militants were killed in Yaaqle village, located near Hawadlay in the Middle Shabelle region.
The statement also acknowledged that four Somali army soldiers were killed in the course of these operations.
These developments follow just days after joint forces reportedly eliminated more than 100 al-Shabab fighters in military actions near the recently reclaimed town of Eldher in the Galmudug region.
During a press conference in Mogadishu, Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur emphasized that current operations are employing both ground assaults and airstrikes, with the aim of dismantling the terrorist group’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
