Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, recently visited the Akay ready-made garments factory in Port Said, which produces clothing and blue jeans for leading Turkish and international brands. During the visit, Ambassador Şen highlighted the factory’s success, noting that it employs around 1,500 Egyptian workers, technicians, engineers, and managers, and produces 2.5 million jeans annually.
“The factory produces jeans for the renowned Turkish national brand ‘Jeans’ as well as other world-famous luxury denim brands,” Ambassador Şen remarked. The Akay factory, established in 2007 with $35 million in Turkish investment, plans to expand its operations with an additional $15 million investment.
Ambassador Şen underscored the significant role Egypt plays in the global jeans industry, with local fabric producers supplying a large portion of the country’s jeans production and exporting fabric worldwide. He emphasized that nearly all of Akay’s production is directed toward exports, showcasing the growing cooperation between Turkish and Egyptian companies in the textile sector.
The ambassador expressed optimism about the future of Turkish-Egyptian partnerships in the garment industry, highlighting the mutual benefits for both countries. He also pointed out that the Turkish brand Jeans has gained worldwide recognition, with the “Made in Egypt” label contributing to its global admiration.
This visit aligns with the ongoing efforts to strengthen textile collaborations between Turkish companies and Egypt, including the recent $40 million investment project launched by SCZONE and Turkish Eroğlu Global Holding. Turkish businesses continue to show strong interest in expanding their presence in Egypt’s textile industry.
