Libya’s political process and national reconciliation efforts were the focus of discussions between Abdullah Al-Lafi, Vice President of the Presidential Council (PC), and UN Deputy Special Envoy Stephanie Koury on Tuesday.
According to the PC media office, the meeting explored ways to advance the political dialogue in Libya and push forward the country’s reconciliation initiatives. Talks also highlighted ongoing developments in the political landscape and stressed the importance of transitional justice.
The officials reaffirmed the UN mission’s commitment to aiding Libya’s reconciliation efforts and overcoming barriers to organizing a comprehensive national conference.
Koury also briefed Al-Lafi on her recent engagements following her update to the UN Security Council, as she expressed gratitude for the PC’s continuous support and lauded Al-Lafi’s role in the agreement between Libya’s House of Representatives and the High Council of State to appoint a new Central Bank Governor.
Al-Lafi emphasized the necessity of a clear political roadmap to break the current stalemate, paving the way for Libya’s long-awaited elections.
