The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ACT/EMP) is strengthening Zimbabwe’s private sector by enhancing its advocacy efforts to foster economic growth through private enterprise.
In collaboration with the Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ), ACT/EMP observed that while EMCOZ has prioritized labor relations, a broader, unified approach involving trade, agriculture, mining, and banking sectors is essential to drive Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development.
At a recent ILO-supported workshop in Harare, representatives from Employer and Business Membership Organizations (EBMOs) highlighted the need for a Cooperation Framework Agreement to create a unified private sector voice in policy advocacy. Participants agreed to move forward with a plan to implement this framework, which was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ILO reaffirmed its commitment to private sector growth in Zimbabwe, aligning with its global mission to improve labor conditions and living standards. This cooperative approach is expected to drive job creation, boost tax revenues, and enhance economic development across the country.
