A surge in violent incidents in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighborhood is heightening concerns among local residents. Recently, two major incidents have brought security issues to the forefront.
In one case, primary suspect Hashim Dagane Muhumed was apprehended by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the brutal murders of three women in Eastleigh. Following an intense 12-day manhunt, Dagane was located at a hideout in Kamukunji. CCTV footage had previously captured him in Eastleigh, prompting DCI detectives to intensify their search. Dagane is currently undergoing interrogation and will face court proceedings. Allegations also link him to past criminal activity, including a previous murder case involving a family member.
In another incident, DCI detectives are actively pursuing a suspect involved in a violent robbery at Ushirika Tower in Eastleigh. CCTV footage revealed that the assailant, reportedly a Ugandan national, entered a sixth-floor apartment with a hammer, aided by a house-help named Everlyne, who is also Ugandan. During the robbery, 20-year-old Somali house-help Hakimo Muhidin was assaulted, sustaining serious injuries. The assailants stole valuable items, including gold jewelry, cash in Kenyan shillings and U.S. dollars, and four laptops. Hakimo has since received medical treatment and is now recovering.
These alarming incidents in Eastleigh have intensified calls for improved security measures in Nairobi, as residents grow increasingly concerned over the rising violence in their community.
