The final matches of Groups D and F in the AFCON qualifiers have been played.
Angola and Sudan, both of whom had already secured qualification, drew 0-0 in their encounter.
Ghana, considered one of the most disappointing teams in the tournament, ended its campaign with another loss, this time against Niger.
Ousseni Badamassi put Niger ahead in the 22nd minute following a corner kick. Ghana equalized in the 67th minute through defender Jeremia Afriyie, but Oumar Sako’s goal in the 90+2 minute secured a 2-1 victory for Niger. Ghana had a chance to equalize with a penalty in the 90+6 minute, but failed to convert.
In Group D, Libya and Benin drew, which opened up a chance for Rwanda to qualify.
Although Rwanda managed to defeat a stronger Nigerian team at home, the score wasn’t enough for them, as they needed at least a three-goal victory. Nigeria took the lead in the 59th minute with a goal from Samuel Chukwueze. Rwanda responded with goals from Ange Mutsinzi in the 72nd minute and Innocent Nshuti in the 75th, but the score still wasn’t enough for their qualification.
Another game took place between Burkina Faso and Malawi in Group L. Burkina Faso, who has had a strong run in the tournament, suffered a heavy defeat, with Malawi emerging victorious with a 3-0 score.
However, the victory was insufficient for Malawi to advance. Despite this loss, Burkina Faso qualified from the group stage.
