The Sudanese army has announced the full liberation of Sinjah, the capital of Sennar state, and the reopening of the main highway connecting it to Sennar city. This marks a significant step forward in the military’s campaign against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Sinjah, which fell under RSF control during their June offensive, was recaptured by the army on November 23 after intense battles. Major Fath al-Alim al-Shobli, the commander overseeing operations in Sennar state, confirmed that Sinjah and surrounding areas have now been secured.
“We have completed the final phase of liberating Sinjah, and the national highway connecting it to Sennar city is now open,” he stated. Additionally, the road connecting Mayirno to Sinjah, along with several villages in the vicinity, has been cleared of RSF forces.
The army’s advance included reclaiming strategic locations such as Mayirno, Al-Nouraniya, Tayba Al-Lawain, Al-Marfa’a, and Umm Shuka, where the RSF had reportedly committed abuses against civilians. An earlier success on October 5 saw the military cut off an RSF supply route by capturing the Muya mountain range.
Despite these gains, the RSF retains control of key areas near South Sudan’s border, including Al-Dali and Al-Mazmoum localities, as well as parts of Blue Nile state. The military continues its efforts to eliminate RSF presence and restore stability to the region.
