Somalia’s inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit concluded in Mogadishu, showcasing the country’s commitment to using cutting-edge technologies for sustainable development. Under the theme “Using Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Solutions,” the event brought together policymakers, experts, and technology leaders to explore AI’s potential in addressing Somalia’s unique challenges.
The summit, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Technology, Zamzam University of Science and Technology, and the Somali Artificial Intelligence Forum, marked a significant milestone in the nation’s digital transformation. According to Hiiraan Online, Minister of State for Communications Ahmed Osman Diriye emphasized AI’s transformative power, calling it a “lifeline” for Somalia’s socio-economic development.
Key discussions focused on AI’s role in governance, food security, internet safety, and agriculture, aligning with Africa’s AI strategy for 2024–2030. Zamzam University President Mohammed Mohamud Harbi announced the Somali Artificial Intelligence Forum would become an annual event to foster ongoing innovation and collaboration.
By prioritizing AI-driven solutions, Somalia aims to address critical issues like food insecurity and governance gaps, solidifying its role in Africa’s digital transformation efforts.
