Mamelodi Sundowns to Announce a New Head Coach
Mamelodi Sundowns are set to announce a new head coach. It remains unclear whether the current coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, will be removed from his position or demoted to assistant coach.
Mngqithi has delivered positive results in both the league and the CAF Champions League. However, the club, which has won the South African league title for seven consecutive seasons, is now seeking a European coach to take charge. It is also uncertain whether the members of Mngqithi’s technical staff will remain with the team.
Manqoba Mngqithi took over the reins last season after Rulani Mokwena’s departure and implemented a dominant style of play. This season, Sundowns have secured the top spot in the league, amassing 21 points from eight matches alongside Orlando Pirates.
Despite their strong league performance, Sundowns faced setbacks in knockout competitions. They were defeated 2-1 by newly promoted Magesi FC in the Knockout Cup and eliminated by Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 tournament. In the CAF Champions League, they earned two points from two challenging matches.
The team is set to face Raja Casablanca on Sunday in a crucial CAF Champions League fixture. This match could potentially mark the debut of Sundowns’ new head coach.
