Ivory Coast’s legendary footballer Didier Drogba has voiced his support for Kylian Mbappé, one of today’s best players, who made headlines with his transfer to Real Madrid.
Mbappé has faced criticism for not having the smoothest start at Real Madrid, but Drogba told RFI that this situation is normal.
“His adaptation from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid isn’t the easiest,” Drogba said. “But I’d rather have a difficult adaptation in Madrid than find myself in a situation where everything’s easier.”
“I think Mbappé’s going to learn a lot from this experience. I think he’ll mature, and that’s going to benefit the France team, of course, and it’s going to benefit him too.”
When Mbappé joined Real Madrid, he stated that it was a dream come true. The star player scored a goal last Saturday in the match against Girona and followed it up with another goal on Tuesday against Atalanta. However, he suffered an injury that will keep him off the pitch for two weeks.
Speaking about Mbappé’s challenges, Drogba added:
“Kylian is going through a difficult period, but he wanted to be there in Madrid, and he’s ready for the challenge.
“The ups and downs are part of a player’s career. It’s like injuries, except these ones aren’t physical. But it can help you become another player, even a stronger one.”
Since retiring from football, Drogba has been serving as the vice-president of the NGO Peace and Sport. He continues to campaign and raise funds for the Didier Drogba Foundation, an economic development charity he established.
