The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) inspected Kenya’s Nyayo National Stadium on Monday.
Led by the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Sports and LOC Chair, Engineer Peter Tum, the committee held a meeting to ensure the stadium would be ready by January 10. This deadline was set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The tournament is set to begin in February, raising questions about whether Kenya can prepare the stadium in time. The championship will be hosted jointly by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya from February 1 to 28.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed spoke positively about the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, stating,
“I congratulate the government for the incredible job that is going on at all the sites in terms of the preparations for CHAN, which is coming up very soon.”
Kenya’s stadium conditions have drawn significant criticism in the past. However, LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye expressed confidence in Kenya’s readiness, saying,
“We are working around the clock and will deliver on our mandate. I want to assure everyone we are going to host CHAN.”
If Kenya can complete the preparations on time, it will retain its hosting rights for the tournament. This would mark a significant step toward establishing the country as a major hub for sports events.
