Widespread Violence Claims Lives, Sudan Forces Secure Key Territory
The ongoing conflict in Sudan intensified over the past week, with artillery shelling in Khartoum killing nine people and injuring 121, while the Sudan Shield Forces captured the strategic town of Wad Rawah in Al Jazirah state from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). These developments underscore the escalating humanitarian crisis and shifting frontlines in the war that has displaced millions since April last year.
Rising Casualties in Khartoum
Khartoum state’s Ministry of Health reported significant casualties due to RSF shelling in areas such as Omdurman and Karari locality, alongside injuries caused by stray bullets. Efforts are underway to provide medical care to affected individuals, including students taking exams, while health officials work to control outbreaks of diseases like cholera, dengue fever, and malaria in reclaimed areas.
Strategic Advances by Sudan Shield Forces
In a surprise operation, Sudan Shield Forces seized Wad Rawah, located northeast of Tambul in the Butana Plain, targeting RSF positions. The forces captured five combat vehicles and inflicted losses on RSF troops. However, sources indicate that the operation was tactical, with limited potential for a permanent presence.
These events reflect the deepening crisis in Sudan, as the army and RSF battle for control, leaving civilians caught in the crossfire and facing dire humanitarian challenges.
