Somalia’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has issued a tender for the development of a 10MWp solar photovoltaic power plant, equipped with a 20MWh battery storage system, in Garowe, Puntland. This project also includes a 9km, 33kV evacuation line for the National Energy Corporation of Somalia (NECSOM).
The project is part of the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery initiative, aimed at increasing access to affordable, cleaner electricity and revitalizing the country’s energy infrastructure. It is financed by the World Bank under the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project.
The solar plant will be located in a 290-hectare area in Garowe, and the required minimum capacity is 10MWp of solar generation, with a 20MWh battery storage system. The project is expected to be completed within 15 to 18 months from the start date.
Interested parties are invited to attend a virtual pre-bid conference scheduled for January 23, 2025, at 10:30 am Mogadishu Local Time. The submission deadline for bids is set for February 10, 2025.
