Egypt has reopened the Rafah border crossing to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, following the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The decision, announced on Sunday, marks a significant effort to alleviate the dire conditions faced by civilians in the enclave after weeks of conflict.
According to Egyptian authorities, an initial convoy of 95 trucks carrying food, medical supplies, and other essential goods crossed into Gaza early in the day. Efforts are underway to ensure the swift delivery of additional aid, with approximately 500 more trucks expected to follow throughout the day.
The Rafah crossing, a critical lifeline for Gaza, has been central to international relief operations during the recent hostilities. Egyptian officials emphasized their commitment to supporting the humanitarian response, coordinating with international organizations to expedite the aid flow.
The ceasefire, brokered with international mediation, is seen as a window of opportunity to address urgent humanitarian needs. However, the long-term challenges of reconstruction and recovery remain daunting, requiring sustained global support.
This development underscores Egypt’s role as a key mediator in regional stability and its efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict.
