Egypt’s Ambassador to Bamako, Mohamed al-Gammal, has met with Malick Diaw, Speaker of Mali’s Transitional National Council, to explore new avenues for collaboration between the two nations. The discussions covered a wide range of areas, including political, security, developmental, and cultural cooperation, with a particular focus on enhancing parliamentary and legislative ties.
The ambassador emphasized Egypt’s ongoing commitment to supporting Mali in its fight against terrorism, underscoring the need for sustained joint efforts to address regional security challenges. In response, Speaker Diaw highlighted the urgency of strengthening legislative frameworks to support Mali’s transitional phase, marking the critical role of parliamentary and legislative cooperation in shaping the country’s future.
The meeting also followed up on discussions held during Ambassador al-Gammal’s visit to Cairo in December, during which the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster military cooperation. This initiative aims to reinforce Mali’s military capabilities in the face of ongoing threats, particularly from terrorist groups.
Additionally, in a separate meeting with Mali’s Minister of National Defense, Sadio Camara, Ambassador al-Gammal reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting the Malian armed forces in tackling security challenges. Minister Camara expressed gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering support, calling the partnership a cornerstone for stability and security in the region. He emphasized that the strengthening of military ties between the two nations would have far-reaching benefits, not only for their bilateral relations but also for broader regional peace.
The growing partnership between Egypt and Mali reflects a shared commitment to ensuring regional stability and securing the necessary reforms to navigate Mali’s transition. Both countries are working to forge stronger ties in the face of complex political and security challenges.
