Egypt and Djibouti have reinforced their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, focusing on Red Sea security, Somalia’s stability, and infrastructure cooperation, including a potential Egyptian port connection to Djibouti. The discussions took place during political consultations between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, following a high-level meeting between President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Minister Youssouf.
Both parties agreed on the significance of joint efforts to maintain navigation safety in the Red Sea, especially in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and to support Somalia’s unity and stability. Egypt reiterated its dedication to Somalia’s territorial integrity and counterterrorism initiatives.
The meeting also covered potential logistical cooperation, including linking Egyptian ports to Djibouti, and shared efforts to secure maritime routes. Additionally, discussions touched on regional security, with both nations expressing their desire to support Sudan’s stability and strengthen African Union initiatives.
This strengthened cooperation aims to address the evolving challenges in the Horn of Africa while fostering mutual economic growth and regional security.
