Ethiopia’s coffee and spice exports have exceeded expectations, generating over $1.016 billion in the first seven months of the fiscal year. The country initially aimed to export 156,190.21 tons for $805.56 million but surpassed projections, recording a 71% increase in volume and a 61% rise in revenue compared to the previous year.
Coffee alone contributed significantly, with exports reaching 223,046.04 tons, generating $1.011 billion—127% of the planned revenue. Saudi Arabia led as the top importer, followed by Germany and Belgium. The top 10 destinations, including the USA, South Korea, UAE, Japan, China, Jordan, and Italy, accounted for 76% of total export volume.
Among Ethiopia’s coffee varieties, Nekemte led in exports, followed by Sidama and Jimma. While most coffee types saw increased earnings, Yirgachefe was the only variety to record a decline.
