26-year-old Cameroonian boxer and bronze medalist Cindy Ngamba has withdrawn from her professional debut due to medical reasons.
She will not be participating in the women’s boxing event taking place in London on Friday.
Cindy Ngamba made history at the Paris Olympics as the first athlete from the Refugee Olympic Team to win a medal.
Regarding her withdrawal from Friday’s bout due to health concerns, Boxxer, with whom she signed a multi-fight promotional deal, released the following statement:
“Cindy Ngamba will not be making her professional debut on Friday night after a pre-fight medical examination revealed an issue requiring further investigations.”
“The health and safety of fighters remains the highest priority, and Cindy will undergo further tests in the coming days.”
Cindy Ngamba has stated that she will not be making any comments on the matter.
The main event on Friday night will see Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price face off in a world light-middleweight title unification bout.
WBC lightweight champion Caroline Dubois will also defend her title against Bo Mi Re Shin in the co-main event.
