Yangtze Optics Africa Cable (YOA Cable) unveiled its 14,000m² facility worth R160 million at Dube Trade Port yesterday.
The company’s CEO, Pieter Viljoen, assessed this investment as follows:
“The timing of this investment is crucial. Optical fibre is the backbone of the modern digital economy, and this facility will allow us to scale our vision of an inclusive, connected South Africa.”
Founded in 2016, the company introduced its first optical fibre products and highlighted the fast fusion technology that accelerates network installations. The newly established facility will expand production capacity.
Beyond manufacturing, YOA Cable also focuses on skills development. It offers young Africans training opportunities through internships and leadership programs.
MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Musa Zondi, emphasized the significance of this investment and its positive impact on KwaZulu-Natal’s economy:
“YOA Cable has consistently demonstrated commitment to growth and innovation. From an initial R150 million investment in 2016 to today’s R160 million expansion, they’ve created 210 jobs while driving South African technology onto the global stage.”
Zondi added that the company’s success has strengthened trade within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, generating R66 million in exports over the past three years.
