Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that desert locusts have begun entering the Dhehiba region in Tataouine from Libya, where their spread has been fueled by favorable weather conditions.
Following a meeting of the National Locust Monitoring and Control Committee, officials assured that the situation remains under control. Authorities have mobilized equipment and pesticides while activating regional response teams in high-risk areas.
Surveillance operations are underway, with technical teams closely monitoring the locust movement. Tunisia is also intensifying cooperation with neighboring countries and international organizations to prevent further spread and protect crops.
Strong winds have already carried locust swarms from Libya into Algeria and Tunisia, raising concerns about potential outbreaks across the region.
