The International Charity Organization (ICO), based in the United Arab Emirates, has initiated the construction of a fully integrated residential city in Mauritania, aligning with Zayed Humanitarian Day.
The USD 2.18 million project is designed to support underprivileged families, including orphans, by providing essential housing and services. The planned integrated city will include 100 fully equipped homes, a mosque with a capacity for 100 worshippers, a school, a health center with modern medical facilities, and an artesian well to ensure access to clean water. Additionally, it will feature charitable endowment shops and a modern water distribution network to improve efficiency.
According to ICO Secretary-General Khaled Al-Khaja, Mauritania was chosen for this initiative based on extensive field studies that highlighted the urgent need for developmental support in the region. He emphasized that the project reflects the organization’s commitment to sustainable development and improving living conditions in vulnerable communities.
“This initiative aligns with our humanitarian vision and embodies the values of generosity and solidarity established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It continues the UAE’s longstanding commitment to global humanitarian efforts,” Al-Khaja stated.
In addition to the Mauritania integrated city project, the ICO marked Zayed Humanitarian Day by launching various charitable activities within the UAE, including well donations, water provisions for hospital patients, and the distribution of food parcels and Iftar meals to orphans and families in need during Ramadan.
