Ethiopia and Somalia announced their keen commitment to the third round of dialogue in Ankara: “We express our gratitude to Türkiye.” The scheduled negotiations between Somalia and Ethiopia in Ankara terminated after a day.
Even though both nations had stated intentions before the meeting, the Turkish Foreign Ministry reports that some progress was made during this second round of talks.
Similar to the previous meeting, there were no in-person meetings. However, based on a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Ethiopia, and Somalia agreed to safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity during this meeting, with Somalia declaring that it was ready for Ethiopia to access into the sea.

Both countries’ foreign ministers expressed gratitude to Turkiye in a press release after the second round of talks.

Hakan Fidan’s facilitation, indirect negotiations with Ethiopia progressed. With aspirations for a settlement that preserves our unity and sovereignty, Somalia is resolute in maintaining its sovereignty and eagerly anticipating the third round of negotiations.” said Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“H.E. Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, is also appreciated by the Ethiopian government for his visit, during which he met with H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The efforts of the Foreign Minister show how the Republic of Turkey has assumed its responsibility as a facilitator of discussions between Ethiopia and Somalia in an admirable manner. Ethiopia is certain that Türkiye now recognizes the significance Ethiopia places on this assistance, as well as Ethiopia’s rightful interest and the nonviolent way it is attempting to obtain consistent access to and from the sea.

The third round of talks is scheduled for September 17.
According to diplomatic sources at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 3rd round of talks is set for 17th September. We are as devoted as ever to the Ankara Process.
The third round of this process will take place in Ankara on September 17th, and our goal is to successfully finish it. Our discussions with the parties and our regional partners will go on in the interim.
