The Puntland state of Somalia has refuted the militants’ increasing dominance in the northern area, claiming that security has been managed by security teams who have kept the militants at away despite their threats.
Due to its links and influence, the United States last week designated IS-Somalia as one of the main threats in the Horn of Africa. Its Emir Mumin is thought to have died in a recent airstrike that targeted the militants in Puntland state.
In the Bari region of Somalia, the IS-Somalia organization has a minor foothold in the Golis highlands, where it has been carrying out terror operations. The gang posts pictures of its recruits more frequently, most of them are foreign fighters.
Puntland, however, maintains that the state poses no security concern, citing the strength and ability of its security personnel, who it maintains have been able to keep the situation under control. Bari is a mountainous area that is perfect for exercise.
The authorities did not, however, address rumors that the U.S. bombing in Puntland last month targeted Abdulqadir Munin, the leader of the ISIS offshoot group in Somalia.
Although the US acknowledged the airstrike, it was unsure of the casualty count.
in May 31, the attack was carried out 50 kilometers from the coastal city’s Central Business District, in the outskirts of Bosaso town.
Although there was no instant confirmation, the United States insists Mumin was the target and that he may have died.
Puntland has been engaged in combat with the militants for some time, with multiple disruptions of the terror network by the local troops. The group moved to the state in response to opposition from rivals, the al-Shabaab, who are battling to overthrow Somalia’s precarious federal government, which is supported by the UN.
