The Katsina State Police Command has successfully freed 30 kidnapped individuals and recovered an AK-47 rifle after conducting operations against terrorists in Dutsinma, Safana, Jibia, and Malumfashi Local Government Areas.
On August 17, police rescued seven victims during a raid on terrorist hideouts between Dutsinma and Safana, and three more were saved after intercepting a kidnapping attempt in Jibia. Additionally, 20 people abducted from Yaba village in Malumfashi on August 20 were rescued following a dramatic shootout with the perpetrators.
The police operation, which took place on August 21, 2024, involved a coordinated effort by the Dutsinma Police Division and local vigilantes, led by CSP Bello Abdullahi Gusau. The team managed to rescue seven hostages from Farar Kasa and Shanga villages without injury and recovered an AK-47 rifle. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
At around 12:05 a.m., a distress call alerted the local police that armed bandits were attacking Jibian Maje, Nasarawa, and Lankwasau villages in Jibia LGA, firing their weapons indiscriminately.
In response, the police chief in Jibia quickly mobilized a team that engaged the attackers in a fierce battle, successfully thwarting all three assaults and rescuing three kidnapped individuals. The victims, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to a hospital for treatment.
On August 20, 2024, around 7:58 p.m., another report came in about bandits attacking Yaba village in Malumfashi LGA, where they kidnapped 20 people and stole five cows. The police chief in Malumfashi swiftly led a team that intercepted the bandits on the edge of the village, managing to rescue all the kidnapped victims and recover the stolen livestock. The bandits escaped with several injuries from the confrontation.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to capture the fleeing attackers.
