According to local authorities, the Atepi bridge in Owinykibul Payam, which links South Sudan and Uganda, fell over the weekend.
The Payam head chief told the local media this morning that a significant bridge collapsed due to heavy rain over the weekend.
According to Oyet Joseph, the bridge became impassable due to the heavy rains that fell from 4:00 pm on Friday until 9:00 am on Saturday.
The bridge, which connected the area’s center, was essential to the residents.
According to Oyet, the fall has caused disruptions to transport, agricultural, schools, and military academy operations.
“The school is now not functioning, the military academy is not functioning right now, and even th OTC (Owinykibul Training Centre) is not functioning right now,” Oyet stated.
“Any movement from here to that side of Angok is no longer than even people moving from here to Uganda, there is no movement by now as I talk,” he stated.
local radio received confirmation of the occurrence from Pole-pole Benjamin Olum, the Magwi County Commissioner.
He claimed that because the bridge was essential for both people mobility and security control, its collapse had resulted in a great deal of anxiety.
Pole-pole pleaded with the authorities and aid agencies to act swiftly to get the bridge fixed.
“This bridge was contributing to the easy movement of the community especially the farmers, it promotes health and also education, even security of the area, these are some of the basic things this road used to provide to the community,” Pole-Pole stated.
“I’m calling on all the humanitarian organizations and government all levels to quickly respond and prioritize the repair of the Atepi Bridge,” he stated.
“The road that connects the two sides of Owinykibul Payam, which is essential for reestablishing movement, runs from Iwire to Owiny.
The provision of services, health education, and general amenities for the impacted community. These are issues that affect all South Sudanese citizens in terms of an emergency response.
