President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who secured his second term in the September 7 presidential election, was formally inaugurated today at the Palace of Nations in Algiers. This official ceremony was marked by the presence of Algeria’s highest institutions, highlighting the significance of the event in the nation’s political landscape.
The inauguration began with the recitation of select verses from the Noble Qur’an, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings. Following this, Omar Belhadj, Chairman of the Constitutional Court, presented a statement detailing the final election results, confirming Tebboune’s substantial victory with 84.30% of the vote.
Supreme Court President Tahar Mamouni then administered the oath of office. President Tebboune repeated the oath verbatim, placing his right hand on the Qur’an, symbolizing his commitment to the responsibilities of his role.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Tahar Mamouni officially confirmed, “As the President of the Supreme Court, I attest that the President of the Republic has taken the oath of office.”
In accordance with Article 89 of the Algerian Constitution, the President is required to take the oath before the nation’s top institutions within a week of the election and assumes office immediately afterward. This procedure underscores the constitutional framework governing the transition of power and the continuity of leadership in Algeria.
