Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his speech on UN General Assembly today, emphasized the critical role of shaping the future of humanity and calls for collective action to promote peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.
He highlighted the global inequalities that persist, particularly for marginalized communities, and stresses that leadership must focus on solutions rather than mere rhetoric.
He specifically addressed Africa’s marginalization in global systems, noting that Africa has often been treated as a passive recipient of aid rather than an equal partner in progress.
He highlighted Africa’s potential, particularly through its young, energetic population, and called for a new global framework that provides opportunities for growth, education, healthcare, and economic development.
The President pointed to Ghana’s efforts to ensure inclusive development through initiatives like free secondary education, healthcare infrastructure projects (Agenda 111), agricultural reforms (Planting for Food and Jobs), and industrial transformation (1-District-1-Factory).
He added that Ghana’s embrace of digitalization through public service reforms and technological integration demonstrates how such changes can enhance transparency and efficiency, laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
