Mbae Mohamed, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Comoros, emphasized during his address that the General Assembly’s debate is taking place during a critical period, with the war in Ukraine threatening global stability.
He urged Ukraine and Russia to work towards a ceasefire, highlighting that peace between these nations is essential for global stability, particularly in Africa.
He condemned the war in Palestine, describing it as “purest form of genocide,” and called on the international community to push for an immediate end to hostilities, ensure humanitarian aid, and work towards a two-state solution based on international law and Security Council resolutions. He also praised Palestine’s admission as a full UN member.
Mohamed expressed concern for the West Bank, quoting Cardinal Pizzaballa on the escalating violence fueled by hatred and resentment.
He addressed the conflict in Sudan, urging both sides to show restraint and protect civilians from the horrors of war. On Western Sahara, he endorsed Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan as the most viable solution to end the prolonged conflict and promote regional development.
Comoros supports international collaboration, particularly in legal frameworks for artificial intelligence, and backs the Summit of the Future resolutions. Mohamed also anticipates the upcoming Financing for Development conference, hoping it will lead to reforms in multilateral development banks and institutions, allowing Global South countries to access sustainable and predictable resources. He called on affected nations to unite in formulating proposals for this purpose.
