For five consecutive days, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, leader of the Sudanese army, has commanded an offensive to regain Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Supported by air and artillery, the army launched a major ground offensive from Omdurman, gaining control of key districts such as Moqran and Halfaya. RSF forces retreated southward. Additionally, Burhan inspected front-line operations near the Khartoum oil refinery, aiming to secure supply routes and reinforce the army’s position across strategic fronts in the capital.
Burhan also visited Shendi and Kadru military zones, reviewing operations of the 3rd Infantry Division. His first visit to the region since the conflict began marks a significant push to connect army forces across Khartoum Bahri and Omdurman. Army sources indicated that securing the refinery would solidify their supply routes, crucial to maintaining control and ending the siege on military command centers.
Furthermore, army troops took positions in key government buildings previously held by RSF snipers in Moqran. Meanwhile, Burhan met with local residents and intelligence personnel in Omdurman, as video footage showed him engaging with civilians in the al-Thawra neighborhood.
The operation aims to reconnect the army forces in the northern and southern parts of Khartoum and take back control of the oil refinery and critical military zones to end the ongoing siege by the RSF.
