The Basketball Africa League, held in its current format for the fifth year, will kick off next Thursday. The tournament will be hosted by the Libyan team Al-Ahly Tripoli.
In the first round of the tournament, Al-Ahly Tripoli will face Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces on Thursday. The Libyan team will play against Stade Mailen on Friday and will meet Creole Stars in the third round.
This year’s tournament is expected to be stronger in terms of organization. Given the international successes of African or African-descended basketball players, it is not hard to predict that this tournament will attract more attention than in previous years.
Last year’s tournament was won by Angola’s Petro Atletico team, which defeated the Libyan representative, Al-Ahly Benghazi, with a score of 107-94 in the final. Libya, which has never brought the trophy home before, aims to make the most of the hosting opportunity this year.
