At least 20 people were killed, and dozens more were injured following an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday evening in Al-Damukiya, a village located east of Khor Taqat in the Shikan locality, rural El Obeid, North Kordofan state.
Eyewitnesses informed Sudan Journal that RSF militants launched the assault on Monday evening, riding in on approximately 30 motorcycles. The violent attack resulted in the deaths of 20 villagers, with 22 others, including elderly people and children, sustaining injuries. The injured were quickly transported to El Obeid Hospital to receive medical attention.
In the aftermath, volunteers took to social media, appealing for donations to fund surgeries and urgent treatments for those injured in the brutal attack.
Witnesses report that RSF forces have been frequently targeting villages around El Obeid in recent weeks. Villagers have been left with no choice but to arm themselves to defend against raids, which typically focus on stealing livestock and vehicles.
The eyewitness added that RSF units have also been targeting vehicles carrying civilians to weekly markets in rural North Kordofan. These convoys are often ambushed, with the RSF looting cash, phones, and cars. When civilians attempt to resist, they are met with gunfire.
While the Sudanese army retains control over El Obeid, RSF fighters have seized positions on the city’s western outskirts. Sporadic clashes continue to erupt between the two forces, including artillery shelling and direct confrontations.
