In a tragic escalation of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the Joint Force, which is allied with the Sudanese army, has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of executing two of its captured soldiers in North Darfur.
On Tuesday, the Joint Force released a statement condemning the RSF after graphic video footage emerged on pro-RSF social media platforms.
The footage reportedly shows two RSF fighters chasing and shooting prisoners from the Joint Force, who appeared to have surrendered in the desert region of North Darfur.
“We are deeply appalled by the videos depicting members of the RSF militia brutally executing two of our soldiers after their surrender,” said Joint Force spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Mustafa.
“This act is not only cowardly but also a gross violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.”
Mustafa labeled the killings as war crimes, adding that they amount to terrorism and urging international bodies to take immediate action.
He called upon global organizations, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), to investigate the incident, hold RSF leaders accountable, and document the violations.
The accusations follow recent fierce clashes between the Joint Force and RSF in North Darfur, where both groups have claimed heavy casualties on opposing sides.
This brutal conflict is part of a broader war that broke out in May between the Sudanese army and RSF, with each side vying for control over various regions in Sudan.
The Joint Force further demanded that international bodies and humanitarian organizations step in to investigate these killings and ensure that justice is served.
