According to Soccernet.ng, the journalists kidnapped ahead of today’s Nigeria-Libya match were rescued by the police. Six sports journalists, who were on their way to watch the match at the stadium, were rescued by security forces in Anambra State.
The journalists were part of an 11-member media crew that was ambushed on Thursday morning on the Isseke-Orlu road in the Ihiala Local Government Area, a region where separatist activities are prevalent.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that six journalists had been rescued and that efforts to locate and rescue the seventh journalist were ongoing. The kidnapping took place in a dangerous area known for separatist activity, posing a risk even for the police.
Nevertheless, the security forces are determined to take full responsibility for resolving the situation. It is unfortunate that such distressing events occur during sports events organized to promote friendship.
