Speaking during the official ceremony to appoint Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a Ng’ang’a as the new Bishop of Kenya’s Military Ordinariate at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, President William Ruto emphasized the significant role the Church plays in the country’s strength.
The President expressed his gratitude to Pope Francis for appointing Bishop Ng’ang’a, noting that this move enhances the spiritual foundation of the military.
Ruto highlighted the close partnership between the government and religious institutions, describing it as a fundamental pillar of the nation’s success. He acknowledged the Catholic Church as one of the state’s leading partners, contributing to key sectors such as education, healthcare, and pastoral services, while also offering psychosocial support.
“Since our nation’s founding, the relationship between the government and religious organizations has been a cornerstone of our strength as a country,” the President remarked.
He further emphasized that the collaboration is built on shared values such as respect, tolerance, and moral integrity, providing a solid foundation for societal cohesion.
Ruto extended his appreciation to Pope Francis for the appointment, stating that it reinforces the spiritual well-being of the Kenyan military. He expressed optimism that Bishop Ng’ang’a’s leadership would bring essential spiritual guidance to Kenya’s Defense Forces (KDF) personnel.
“Bishop Ng’ang’a’s leadership will be instrumental in offering the necessary spiritual care for our soldiers,” the President added, congratulating him on his new role.
Additionally, President Ruto expressed admiration for the Secretary of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) for reaffirming the Church’s commitment to supporting the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.
“This is the true essence of humanity—to be able to serve and uplift those who are most in need,” Ruto stated.
