The African Defense Ministers Conference, aimed at strengthening peace, security, and unity across the continent, is set to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, next week.
In an exclusive interview with Ethiopia News Agency, Ethiopian Defense Minister Engineer Aisha Mohammed explained that the conference, hosted at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, will focus on improving continental security structures and enhancing military cooperation among African countries.
She highlighted that key discussions will include combating terrorism, addressing common security concerns, and fostering partnerships in the defense industry by learning from countries with more advanced capabilities.
The conference will also emphasize Africa’s critical role in promoting global peace and the continent’s efforts to improve cooperation in humanitarian aid and disaster response.
A major area of focus will be capacity building in defense sectors through training, technology transfer, and knowledge sharing, according to the Minister.
Leading experts are expected to present research findings that could shape Africa’s future defense strategies.
Additionally, the conference will explore Africa’s military history and evolution, examining its contributions to peacekeeping and addressing challenges related to cybersecurity and modern military cooperation. The event will also feature exhibitions, documentary screenings, and site visits.
Minister Aisha noted that the conference’s goal is to outline a vision for Africa’s peace, stability, and development, while fostering collaboration to address shared security challenges.
The gathering will bring together African defense ministers, senior military officials, defense attachés in Ethiopia, military research experts, as well as high-ranking government officials and military leaders.
