The African School of Governance Foundation (ASGF) has announced the launch of the African School of Governance (ASG), a graduate institution designed to deliver top-tier public policy education, research, and engagement programs.
The initiative, co-founded by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, in collaboration with other African leaders, scholars, and philanthropists, aims to tackle Africa’s governance challenges by equipping emerging leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective leadership.
Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, ASG will offer a variety of programs, including a Master of Public Administration and Executive Courses tailored to professionals at different career stages. The curriculum will emphasize Africa’s historical, political, and socio-economic contexts while incorporating global best practices.
ASG will also establish research centers focused on addressing governance issues in Africa, promoting evidence-based solutions, and fostering partnerships with governments and the private sector. Professor Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been appointed as ASG’s first president. Headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, the institution will play a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s future leaders.
With its Pan-African scope and global influence, ASG’s mission is to develop leadership capacity that transcends borders, ensuring that African voices are central in global governance discussions.
ASG’s collaboration with institutions such as the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore underscores its dedication to providing a world-class education that blends African and international expertise.
This announcement marks a significant step in Africa’s governance journey, as the institution will contribute to nurturing the leaders Africa needs to face the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
