The group stage of the CAF Champions League Matchday 3 is largely complete.
In Group A, Sudanese team Al-Hilal Omdurman secured a crucial away victory against Algeria’s strong side MC Alger, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Guessouma Fofana.
With three wins in three matches, Al-Hilal Omdurman remains at the top of the group with 9 points, virtually guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage. MC Alger, with 4 points, remains in second place.
In the other match of the group, Tout Puissant Mazembe and Young Africans SC played to a 1-1 draw. The Congolese side’s goal came from Cheick Fofana, while Tanzanian team Young Africans equalized in stoppage time (90+4) through Prince Dube.
In Group B, Congolese team Maniema Union managed a 1-1 draw against Moroccan side AS FAR. Maniema Union’s goal was scored by Exaucia Moanda, while To Carneiro found the net for AS FAR.
The other match in this group will see South Africa’s Sundowns, champions for the past seven seasons, facing Moroccan powerhouse Raja CA.
In Group C, South African team Orlando Pirates, whose performances have been somewhat inconsistent recently, drew 1-1 away against Ivorian side Stade d’Abidjan.
The group is highly competitive, and the outcome of the match between Al-Ahly and Belouizdad later today could play a significant role in shaping the standings.
In Group D, Tunisian side Esperance secured an impressive 2-0 victory over Egyptian giants Pyramids, with goals from Youcef Bellaili and Elias Mokwana.
This result puts Esperance in a strong position in the group. Later today, Angola’s Sagrada Esperança will take on Mali’s Djoliba AC in the other match of Group D.
