In Group A, Sudanese team Al-Hilal secured a 2-1 victory against Congolese side TP Mazembe. Mohammed Abdelrahman scored from the penalty spot, and Jean Claude Girumugisha netted a spectacular goal from outside the box in the 90+1 minute to clinch the win.
Al-Hilal now leads the group with 6 points. TP Mazembe, with just 1 point from two matches, saw their lone goal scored by Oscar Kabwit Tshikomb in the 64th minute with a brilliant strike.
In the other match of the group, Algerian team MC Alger defeated Tanzanian side Young Africans 2-0 with goals from Ayoub Abdellaoui and Soufiane Bayazid. MC Alger, with 4 points, improved their chances of progressing, while Young Africans remain at the bottom with 0 points.
In Group B, Congolese team Maniema Union and Moroccan team Raja CA played to a draw, as did Moroccan side AS FAR and South African leaders Sundowns.
With these results, AS FAR maintained their lead in the group with 4 points. Sundowns and Maniema Union are close behind with 2 points each, while Raja CA lags with 1 point.
Group C saw two strong teams, South African side Orlando Pirates and Egyptian giants Al Ahly, play out a goalless draw. Both teams now have 4 points each.
In the group’s other match, Algerian team CR Belouizdad secured a 1-0 away win against Ivorian side Stade d’Abidjan, courtesy of a goal from Aimen Mahious. Stade d’Abidjan has yet to earn a point after two matches.
Group D featured two goalless draws. Malian side Djoliba AC and Egyptian team Pyramids FC shared the spoils, as did Angolan side Sagrada Esperança and Tunisian team Esperance Tunis.
Pyramids and Esperance lead the group with 4 points each, while Sagrada Esperança and Djoliba trail with 1 point apiece.
