According to locals, gunmen attacked the homes of Southwest security force personnel in Baidoa on Tuesday night with grenades, injuring a number of individuals.
The attack took place in the town’s residential sector, and the targeted security officers were not there. Among those hurt in the incident were security guards and family members, despite the fact that no deaths were reported.
The attack was attributed to Al-Shabab, which said it was directed for the residences of senior government officials.
Security personnel in Baidoa swept the area on Wednesday morning in reaction to the attack. However, during the raid, no one was taken into custody.
Approximately 600,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) live in Baidoa, a town that has frequently been threatened by al-Shabab. According to UN estimates, many of the IDPs were compelled to evacuate their homes due to the continuous drought and warfare.
Prior to the blockade’s final lifting, al-Shabab blocked off supplies to and from Baidoa last year for a period of one week.
