Somali government forces, in collaboration with local militias, successfully killed over 30 al-Shabab militants during a military operation in southern Mudug, according to a statement by the Ministry of Information on Saturday. The operation targeted Qay’ad village, a key area for the militant group.
Among the deceased were two prominent al-Shabab leaders: Mohamed Bashir Muse, known as Mukhtar, who led military operations for the group in the region, and Maadey Foodey, who was responsible for constructing explosives to terrorize local communities.
Additionally, 40 other militants were wounded in the attack, which is part of Somalia’s broader offensive against the al-Qaeda-linked group. The government is determined to dismantle al-Shabab’s control and influence in various regions.
This military strike came shortly after a devastating suicide bombing in Mogadishu, where a bomber targeted a busy restaurant, killing seven people and injuring six others. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack, continuing their violent campaign to destabilize the government.
