In a significant development, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced on Sunday evening that Algeria and Egypt have agreed to strengthen their coordination and consultation on pressing Arab issues and regional matters.
During a press briefing in Cairo, President Tebboune emphasized the mutual understanding between the two nations and expressed a shared commitment to collaborate on new investments, particularly in the fields of energy, housing, and construction. He extended a warm welcome to Egyptian companies interested in investing in Algeria, confirming that he has authorized the Minister of Housing to engage with these firms on architectural projects and the establishment of new towns.
Looking ahead, President Tebboune expressed optimism for the Algeria-Egypt Joint Commission to convene in early 2025, aiming to embark on a new phase of investment and cooperation across various sectors. He expressed gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi for the warm hospitality extended to him, underscoring that any discussion of the Algerian Revolution must acknowledge Egypt’s support for nations striving for freedom from colonialism.
On the topic of Palestine, President Tebboune condemned the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli occupation, highlighting the severe shortages of water, food, and medical supplies. He referred to the situation as “real genocide” and commended the Palestinian people’s resilience and determination to remain on their land.
He noted that Algeria and Egypt are actively working to address the situation through President al-Sissi’s initiative to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip, pending a permanent resolution that would allow Palestinians to regain their territories. Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s commitment at the United Nations Security Council to find a definitive solution to the crisis, advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with El-Quds as its capital.
Regarding the conflict in Sudan, President Tebboune expressed deep regret over the strife among the Sudanese people, emphasizing that Algeria and Egypt have historically intervened only to promote reconciliation.
In his remarks, President al-Sissi highlighted the significant opportunities for cooperation between Algeria and Egypt, which were discussed during their meeting. He extended his best wishes to the Algerian people and President Tebboune in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution, acknowledging the deep respect and admiration the Egyptian people hold for Algeria’s liberation struggle.
