Angola’s Ministry of Health has confirmed the country’s first case of mpox, previously known as monkeypox, in the capital city of Luanda. The patient, a 28-year-old woman of Congolese nationality, has been isolated alongside her close contacts at the Specialized Center for the Treatment of Endemics and Pandemics.
In a bid to curb the spread of the virus, the government has initiated comprehensive measures, including the disinfection of affected areas and the tracing of contacts. Epidemiological investigations are also underway to assess the full scope of the situation.
The Ministry of Health has called on the public to take preventive actions, such as practicing frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms, and using personal protective equipment. Individuals experiencing symptoms like fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, or a rash are urged to seek immediate medical attention.
While the outbreak remains under control, authorities reassured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard health and prevent further transmission of the disease. The Ministry has committed to keeping the population informed as the situation evolves.
