Angola is gearing up for the sixth edition of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) Conference & Exhibition to be held on September 3-4, 2025, in the country’s capital, Luanda. This year’s event is set to be the largest of its kind, coinciding with Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, and will serve as the premier platform for oil and gas investment in Africa.
The AOG 2025 conference is poised to bring together global industry leaders, financiers, technology innovators, and service providers from around the world to discuss opportunities and advancements within Angola’s booming energy sector. Under the theme “Turning Dialogue into Business,” the event will focus on fostering high-level B2B networking, promoting strategic partnerships, and facilitating the signing of landmark agreements among key stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.
Angola’s Oil and Gas Industry: A Legacy of Resilience and Growth
According to José Barroso, Angola’s Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, the timing of this year’s conference is especially significant as it celebrates both the country’s independence and its five decades of oil and gas industry growth. “Angola’s oil and gas sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience over the years,” said Barroso. “As we celebrate 50 years of independence, the AOG 2025 conference will showcase Angola’s success and offer compelling investment opportunities for global partners.”
Angola’s oil production has surpassed one million barrels per day and the government is committed to increasing output further with plans for a new licensing round in 2025, offering new exploration opportunities in the Kwanza and Benguela basins. The licensing round will feature key blocks, including blocks 22, 35, 37, 38, and 36 in the Kwanza Basin and blocks 40, 25, 39, and 26 in the Benguela Basin. Additionally, Angola is opening up its marginal fields in various areas, ensuring that the country remains an attractive investment destination for energy companies.
Boosting Natural Gas and Refining Sectors
Alongside oil, Angola is placing a strong emphasis on the development of its natural gas sector, with the government targeting a 25% share of gas in the national energy mix. Strategic initiatives such as Angola LNG and recent developments like Chevron’s Sanha Lean Gas Connection Project are expected to position the country as a major gas exporter in the coming years.
The downstream sector is also set to receive a boost with the anticipated launch of the Cabinda Refinery in 2025, which will have an initial capacity to process 30,000 barrels per day. The government is also looking for investment partners to fast-track the completion of key refinery projects in Lobito and Soyo.
A Key Moment for Local Content Development
Bráulio de Brito, President of AECIPA, emphasized that AOG 2025 will also play a crucial role in developing local content by supporting the training of Angolan professionals and encouraging the use of innovative technology within the national oil and gas industry. “This conference will be a milestone in empowering local businesses and ensuring that Angola’s workforce is equipped to meet global industry standards,” said de Brito.
Looking Ahead to the Future
As Angola celebrates its golden jubilee, the AOG 2025 conference will not only honor the country’s rich energy legacy but will also set the stage for the next 50 years of growth in the oil and gas sector. Luís Conde, Conference Director at Energy Capital & Power, summed up the event’s importance: “AOG 2025 will transform discussions into partnerships and investments, shaping the future of Angola’s energy landscape and solidifying its role as a leader in Africa’s oil and gas industry.”
With a growing emphasis on attracting both foreign and domestic investments, Angola’s oil and gas industry looks set to continue its upward trajectory, ensuring that the country remains a key player in the global energy market for decades to come.
