Angola’s President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço started his speech on UN General Assembly as “It has been nearly 80 years since the UN Security Council was founded and when we look at this process, we can easily say that the UN has moved far away from its founding purposes.”
“In light of this fact, we should think about what we can do from now on to make the UN Security Council more active, effective and a structure that can produce solutions for the development of international peace, cooperation and trade?”
“Today, we see the UN Security Council as very weak, especially in terms of ensuring international peace in Africa.” he stated.
The President added that “Angola is ready to cooperate with the UN Security Council in finding solutions to problems in Africa – especially the crises in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and the Sahel region.”
He said, the Republic of Angola could be a negotiater between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda and to help establishing peace between two countries.
