With the theme “Peace to All Nations,” the event brings together over 300 artists and 35 galleries, highlighting the future of contemporary Arab art.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is buzzing with creativity as Art Cairo 2025 takes over its halls. From February 7 to 11, the event has turned the iconic venue into a global stage for contemporary Arab art, attracting artists, galleries, and art lovers from across the Arab world, Europe, and beyond. With over 3,500 artworks on display, Art Cairo 2025 is a dazzling celebration of art under the theme “Peace to All Nations.”
This year’s exhibition is a visual treat, featuring bold abstract paintings, lifelike portraits, intricate sculptures, and thought-provoking installations. One standout piece is a mixed-media work with delicate embroidery on canvas, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern storytelling. The event also highlights conceptual art, with pieces that challenge norms and spark conversations.
A major highlight is the “Egyptian Sarcophagi” series by Syrian artist Nizar Sabour. This stunning collection honors Egyptian icons like singer Umm Kulthum, novelist Naguib Mahfouz, and composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Inspired by ancient Egyptian funerary traditions, the tall, vertical portraits feature a glowing halo around each figure, giving them a sacred feel.
Sabour’s work is part of a larger project that includes his earlier “Syrian Sarcophagi” and “Lebanese Sarcophagi” series. “Events like Art Cairo are vital for Arab artists,” Sabour said. “They give us a space to connect, share ideas, and grow together. This is how we build a stronger artistic community.”
Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla, a star of the contemporary art scene, is also showcasing his work. “This is a fantastic platform for Arab artists,” Abla said. “The diversity this year is incredible, and I hope it continues to grow. Art has the power to bring people together, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing here.”
The choice of the Grand Egyptian Museum as the venue adds a deeper meaning to the event. With the museum’s official opening around the corner, Art Cairo 2025 bridges ancient and modern art, drawing a diverse crowd. Young people, in particular, have turned out in large numbers, showing a growing passion for art and culture.
International visitors are also soaking up the creative energy. Jon Kapp, an American living in Egypt, couldn’t hide his excitement. “I’m blown away by the stories these artworks tell,” he said. “Every piece has something unique to say, and it’s amazing to see how artists are using their work to explore big ideas.”
Art Cairo 2025 isn’t just an art exhibition—it’s a celebration of unity, creativity, and the power of art to connect people. As the event wraps up on February 11, it leaves behind a powerful message: in a world often divided, art has the unique ability to bring people together. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a casual visitor, Art Cairo is a must-see experience that will leave you inspired.
