The Australian Government is establishing the Africa-Australia Partnership for Climate Responsive Agriculture to tackle the negative impacts of climate change in Africa and to enhance food security.
This partnership is set to be announced at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The aim of the partnership is to leverage Australian expertise to increase the climate resilience of farming communities in Africa.
It is expected to last for six years, with a funding amount of $11.9 million provided by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
Through this investment, training programs will be developed. ACIAR intends to expand its operations into Northern and Western Africa through this partnership.
Previously, it has made strides in sustainable agriculture and livestock systems, forest management practices, and plant biosecurity in Eastern and Southern Africa.
By extending its reach to the other side of the continent, it will create opportunities for new collaborations.
This partnership seems to promise productivity benefits for both Africa and Australia.
