Zimbabwe claimed a Test match victory over Bangladesh for the first time in four years.
Chasing a target of 174, Zimbabwe dramatically collapsed from 95-0 to 161-7, facing an unexpected twist in the game.
However, Wesley Madhevere sealed the win with a four, guiding his team to a three-wicket triumph.
Bangladesh, who had resumed on 194-4, were bowled out for 255. Player of the match Blessing Muzarabani played a crucial role, finishing with impressive figures of 6-72.
Muzarabani removed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 60 early in the day, and then dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4) and last man Jaker Ali (58) to wrap up the innings.
Brian Bennett (54) and Ben Curran (44) gave Zimbabwe a strong start in their run chase, but both fell to all-rounder Mehidy Hasan, who was outstanding with the ball. Hasan ended the match with 10 wickets overall, including figures of 5-50 in the second innings.
Zimbabwe will now look to clinch the series in the second and final Test starting on Monday, 28 April in Chattogram (05:00 BST). If they manage to win, it will mark their first Test series victory over Bangladesh since 2011.
Following the tour of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will fly to England to play a one-off Test match at Trent Bridge, beginning on 22 May. It will be their first Test match in England since their 2003 tour, where they lost matches at Lord’s and Chester-le-Street.
